Ladies and Gentlemen, Mattias Norlinder

It’s been a while it seems. When the Montreal Canadiens traded Max Pacioretty to the Vegas Golden Knights, most people will remember that the Habs got Tomas Tatar, Nick Suzuki and a second round pick in the deal. What some people may not know is that Marc Bergevin traded that pick for two later picks and used one of them to select Mattias Norlinder.

After a couple of years showing great promise in the Swedish League, the offensive defenseman will finally be making his NHL debuts tonight against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Based on the lines combinations that we’ve seen in practice, the 21 year-old, Kramfors, Sweden-native should be paired with veteran David Savard.

The 6-foot and 185 lbs defenseman suffered an undisclosed injury during a pre-season game. He has an “out” to his contract and if the Canadiens cut him, he could rejoin Frölunda HC in the SEL instead of going to Laval.

Gallagher’s 600th

Tonight’s game will be Brendan Gallagher’s 600th career game in the NHL. The heart and soul of the Canadiens, this Energizer Bunny has three goals and five assists in 17 games so far this season. Gallagher was fined $2,500 for his punch on Barklay Goodrow at the end of the last game. Many feel like Goodrow embellished as he threw himself back before peeking to see if the referee had his arm up, which you clearly see at the end of the video.
