By Bob Trask – If the Montreal Canadiens win the 5th overall pick in the NHL draft lottery (my current projection) they will undoubtedly have the opportunity of choosing a very good player. We can take a look at who was ranked in this spot by various scouting services and other hockey professionals.
Player of Interest
The following players are not ranked fifth by any of the services but remain interesting prospects:
- Will Smith – receives his highest ranking from Craig Button who has him at #6 and is ranked as low as #17 by a couple of scouting services. Smith is averaging almost two points per game with the USDP under-18 team and has 10 points in 8 USHL games
- Dalibor Dvorsky – receives his highest ranking from Future Considerations hockey at #4 and is ranked a low as #19. The native of Slovakia will be one of the younger players in the draft and is a big body a 6-foot 1-inch and 201 pounds. He is playing in Allsvenskan, Sweden’s second ranked men’s league after the SHL.
- Eduard Sale – receives his highest ranking from Craig Button who has him at #4 and is ranked #13 by Bob McKenzie. The 6-foot 1-inch 168 pound winger has played most of his hockey this year in the Czech men’s league.
Should the Habs have the fifth overall choice, more than one of these players will definitely be available. Will one of them end up wearing a Habs’ uniform or will it be someone else? Who is on your radar screen?
