According to the New York Post, the New York Rangers trying to trade frustrated Nils Lundkvist prior to training camp, which is only a few weeks away and TVA Sports suggests that the Canadiens are interested in acquiring the 22 year-old defenseman.
Drafted in the first round (28th) by now President of Hockey Operations Jeff Gorton in 2018, Lundkvist is a right-handed defenseman with tons of offensive flair. He has excellent mobility, moves the puck well and can be a passer as well as a shooter. He definitely thinks offense first.
The young Swede came to North America after back-to-back seasons of double-digit goals in Sweden. He split the season between the Rangers and the Hartford Wolf Pack in the AHL last season.
The Rangers are likely seeking prospects or picks for his services, which makes the Canadiens a potentially good trade partner. But keep an eye on the Vancouver Canucks, who have a long history of success with players originating from Sweden and are looking for defensemen.
