Friedman/TFP – Fiala Trade Rumours, Habs In The Running

The Minnesota Wild have been engaged in trade talks involving winger Kevin Fiala for some time and those discussions appear to be heating up. And according to NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, things are intensifying on that front, eight days to the NHL Draft.

And as reported by The Fourth Period, the Montreal Canadiens are one of the potential destination for the Wild’s pending RFA with arbitration rights. Other teams in the running are reportedly the Los Angeles Kings, Ottawa Senators, Philadelphia Flyers, Edmonton Oilers and New Jersey Devils, among others. Kent Hughes has a good relationship with Wild’s GM Bill Guerin. The two teams completed a minor trade last year which saw Andrew Hammond coming to Montreal for AHL tough guy Brandon Baddock.

The 5-foot 10-inches, 204 lbs winger had a breakthrough season last year in Minnesota, tallying 33 goals, 52 assists for 85 points in 82 games. The 25 year-old earned $5.1 million last season and is due for a substantial pay raise. The Wild has over $12.7 million tied up in cap space due to the buyouts of Zach Parise and Ryan Suter.
