Petry To The Flyers Heating Up

According to NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, Jeff Petry going to the Philadelphia Flyers makes a lot of sense. Petry, 34, has a cap hit of $6.25 million for three more years after this one. So Friedman’s take is a bit surprising as the Flyers already have 31 year-old right-handed defenseman Ryan Ellis, who also has a cap hit of $6.25 million for several more years.

With that being said, Rasmus Ristolainen, also a right-handed defenseman, is on the final year of a contract with a $5.4 million cap hit. The Flyers also have Justin Brown on the right side, but rumours have been rampant around the pending UFA defenseman.

According to James Iacovone, accredited Flyers’ reporter from High and Wide Hockey, things are heating up as there is smoke on that rumour.

Could the Canadiens take on Ristolainen as a cap dump to make the trade happen? Let’s keep an eye on this one, shall we?
