According to NHL Insider Pierre LeBrun, we should all keep a close eye on the Canadiens and the Rangers from now until the March 21st trade deadline.
LeBrun believes that the Habs have some of what the Rangers need and would be a good fit for a potential trade between the two teams. Further, the TSN Insider states that the Canadiens would rather add prospects over picks. This makes a lot of sense as since Marc Bergevin’s reset of the summer of 2018, the organisation has picked 45 times already, and have another 12 picks at the upcoming NHL Draft which should be held in Montreal this summer.
We have mentioned in a few occasions on this site that Gorton’s familiarity with the Rangers would make it easier to trade with them and Vitali Kravtsov would be a natural target for the Habs. There are other quality prospects in the Rangers pipeline who might interest Montreal as well.
Canadiens’ Executive V-P of Hockey Operations Jeff Gorton worked in the Rangers’ organisation from the 2007-08 season to 2020-21, prior to joining Montreal. He knows the prospects in the Rangers’ organisation as well as anyone, notably right-handed 20 year-old defenseman Braden Schneider, who was selected 19th overall by the Rangers in 2020.
