According to RDS’ columnist François Gagnon, Jeff Petry has asked the Canadiens to be traded. Gagnon broke the news in the pre-game show on RDS just before the game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. When asked by Cheering The Logo for clarification, he did confirm having said it. However, he also mentioned that it hasn’t been confirmed by Kent Hughes himself.
Petry is not having a good season and his wife Julie has been in hot water lately, even deleting her Twitter account, after making controversial comments. She and their children decided to stay back in the states while Jeff is with the Canadiens.
Hughes told La Presse on Saturday that he met with Petry during the team’s last road trip. The defenseman did NOT formally ask for a trade (that was prior to the Edmonton game and the Kassian incident) but Hughes told him the team will move him if they find something that works for both Petry and the Canadiens.
