Several Teams Interested in Jeff Petry

There are teams in the trade market who are interested in Canadiens’ defenseman Jeff Petry. At least according to Jimmy Murphy of Montreal Hockey Now. And that, despite his struggles this season and his new contract, with a cap hit of $6.5 million.

It sounds like some teams are willing to do something from now until trade deadline. An NHL executive told Murphy that several teams he’s spoken with have an interest in Petry if he regains his form before trade deadline.

Murphy went on to suggest that the Detroit Red Wings might be one of those teams, as they have plenty of cap space, have shown interest in the past and Petry being a Michigan-native.

Further, Petry apparently met with Habs’ management before the game in Minnesota to discuss his future, his aspirations, etc.

It is important to note that Petry has a modified no-trade clause where he must submit a 15 teams no-trade list.
