Habs Get Permission To Speak To Jeff Gorton

According to Elliotte Friedman of CBC and Sportsnet, the Montreal Canadiens have obtained permission to speak with Jeff Gorton. Gorton still being paid by the New York Rangers. He got his start in Boston where he took over briefly as GM. He drafted Phil Kessel, Milan Lucic and Brad Marchand, amongst others. He also traded for Tuukka Rask, signed Zdeno Chara and Marc Savard.

Gordon did great as the Rangers’ GM and Friedman said that he doesn’t believe it’s for the GM job in Montreal. He could he be a potential candidate for President of Hockey Operations, or it possibly could be to take over draft. His work in Boston in 2006 is considered the best ever done for Bruins draft. Friedman says that he might hear more about this tonight.
