Is it rumours or wishful thinking by some Montreal Canadiens’ fans and/or beat writers? Either way, the name of Patrick Roy has been circulating as a potential successor for GM Marc Bergevin or even head coach Dominique Ducharme. It doesn’t take much to light a fire in Montreal as the team is looking for an identity through the first quarter of the season, sitting amongst the worse in the entire NHL in terms of points and points percentage.
TVA Sports reports that Roy’s agent, Neil Glasberg, has vehemently denied rumours that Habs’ President Geoff Molson had spoken to them about a position with the Canadiens. In fact, it seems like the interest in Roy is rather low at the moment.
“It’s quiet right now. It’s not unusual, there’s only been a quarter of the season played.”
Glasberg went further, stating that he and Geoff Molson have had no contact at all.
“As long as the Canadiens will play like that, there will be rumours. I can tell you one thing: it’s nonsense, falsity. There hasn’t been any meeting or conversation even. The team is struggling and Carey Price’s absence has to do with it, but there’s more than that. If in February, the Canadiens are still in that position, maybe Geoff Molson will call me but as we speak, I haven’t spoken to him.”
If Molson is currently looking at replacing Bergevin soon, it appears as though Roy is not a candidate. And that’s a good thing, folks.
