Early Potential Interest For Ben Chiarot

Unless a very unlikely turnaround to their season, the Montreal Canadiens should be sellers by trade deadline this year. And that makes veteran defenseman Ben Chiarot a prime candidate for a trade to a contender. Elliotte Friedman of CBC and Sportsnet, recently said that Chiarot could fetch at least a first round pick, maybe more and that makes fans drool over the prospect in speeding up a retool, a reset or a rebuild.

On Montreal Hockey Now, Mitch Gallo listed the New York Islanders, Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers and Colorado Avalanche as potential trade destinations for Ben Chiarot. The Islanders have recently lost Ryan Pulock to a lower-body injury and the Oilers will be without Darnell Nurse for a few weeks with a fractured finger.

There is no indication that Marc Bergevin is planning on beating the market by trading Chiarot early, as he stated in recent interviews that it’s easier to trade when closer to trade deadline, when most of the players’ salaries are already paid. So the list of suiters could very well be different comes February or March. Trade deadline is on March 21st this season.
