Add former NHLer Philippe Bouher to those who believe that the Canadiens should acquire Samuel Girard from the Colorado Avalanche. Girard recently surfaced in trade rumours as having been offered one of the pieces in a proposed trade to get Jack Eichel from Buffalo. The Denver Post suggests that Girard could still be shopping Girard and his $5 million contract. Rumours are circulating that the Avs were dissatisfied with Girard’s performances in last year’s playoffs, particularly his turnovers and low production. With the emergence of Bowen Byram, he could be the odd man out. It is believed that Joe Sakic would want a top-6 forward in return.
With the way Jonathan Drouin is being treated by some of the fanbase and some media members for the past couple of days, a few people are putting two and two together and think that he could be dangled to the Avs. They cite Drouin’s mental health and pressure in Montreal as a solution for the player, but also the fact that he would be reunited with former junior teammate Nathan MacKinnon while playing for Halifax in the QMJHL.
Reputable NHL Insider Pierre LeBrun reports that the Avalanche isn’t interested in shopping Girard and that while they have enquired about Eichel, he doesn’t believe the talks got very far.
